This is a great opportunity for an innovative individual with strong medical commissioning experience looking for a varied and central role and the challenge of increasing company profitability via acquisitions in order to maintain the company’s reputation as a high quality publisher.
Main Duties
- Researching, acquiring and publishing book projects within selected disciplines â€" with the guidance of the Senior Editor the successful candidate will work to their strengths to build upon and grow an existing list
- Responsible for defining, maintaining, and furthering the company’s accepted goals in terms of program growth and development
- Extensive author contact including proposal review, contract negotiation.
- Evaluating reviews of book proposals and s! ubmitted manuscripts
- Pursuing an active and efficient! acquisitions policy through correspondence, meetings/editorial travel (primarily European), consulting advisors etc
- Preparing commissioning documentation and contracts to satisfaction of management; presents own and other editors’ titles at Global Editorial Meetings
- Preparation of manuscripts for production
- Promotional planning and monitoring of sales
- Supporting the Senior Editor in all aspects of the company’s business strategy considering budget, financial planning, and long range planning for growth and development of the program.
- Working closely with colleagues around the world to ensure a coordinated and effective program
- Conducting market and competitive research
- Supervising external developmental editors in manuscript preparation and internal support staff
Essential
- Prior experience in STM publishing and book project acquisition
- St! rong proven experience of conducting commissioning research, evaluating book proposals and manuscripts
- Proven ability to develop and maintain contacts with relevant industry professionals
- A biomedical degree or a degree in an equivalent scientific subject or equivalent experience
- Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels
- Proven exceptional attention to detail and organisation skills â€" including ability to demonstrate successful project management
- Proven ability to work on own initiative
- Demonstrates strong computer skills including database experience
- Demonstrates a good understanding of or has commissioned for academic and clinical medicine markets
- Educated to biomedical postgraduate level
