Two Research Assistant positions are available in the Centre for Environmental Policy within the Faculty of Natural Sciences. The positions will be! based in Centre for Energy Policy and Technology (ICEPT) and will be full time appointments for four months in the first instance, with possibility for extension subject to funding. The post holders will be based at ImperialÂ's South Kensington campus.
ICEPT, part of the Centre for Environmental Policy, is one of the UKÂ's leading centres for research and policy advice at the interface of energy policy and technology. ICEPT undertakes research in bioenergy, solar energy, decentralised and sustainable energy systems, transitions to low carbon energy systems and energy in developing countries.
The post holders will assist Dr Raphael Slade and Dr Ausilio Bauen in delivering research as part of a European FP7 sponsored research project on green chemical and fuel production from biomass. The project aims to evaluate the costs and sustainability of value chains for novel bio-based products, compare alternative production routes and evaluate future opportunities! .
Post 1 will be responsible for u sing and refining ! an economic model suitable for comparing the costs performance of biorefinery value chains using Palisade @Risk and Microsoft Excel , w orking with project partners to map value chains and identify key parameters and critical assumptions and for p reparing a report and presentation on the above , including a discussion on how opportunities should be prioritised. The post holder must have proven quantitative modelling skills. Direct experience in energy policy analysis and cost modelling and techno-economic analysis would be desirable.
Post 2 will be responsible for undertaking a critical assessment of business opportunities for biorefinery deployment in Europe, reviewing economic and policy barriers to biorefinery deployment and identifying ways in which they might be overcome and for preparing a report and presentation on the above, including recommendations for how opportunities can be realised and barriers overcome. The post holder must have proven qualitative r! esearch skills, for example, experience with semi-structured-interview techniques and market analysis.
You must have an MSc (or equivalent) and a background in economics, engineering, environmental or other social or natural science . You must also have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to synthesise, summarise and articulate complex ideas for a range of audiences. A bility to develop and apply new concepts and creative approach to problem-solving , and ability to work independently and as part of a team are also essential . Ex perience of project management, working on multi-stakeholders projects would be advantageous.
