The Role
Above all, you will work to develop and support the running of our clientâs in house modelling platform. In the process, you will liaise with actuaries and risk modellers to develop and improve risk models. You will also collaborate with other software engineers in order to optimise and enhance the! platform at all levels of the stack.
Major Responsib! ilities
1. Develop and maintain an understanding of the architecture and calculations for in-house modelling platform.
2. Suggest, design and implement optimisations and enhancements to the platform.
3. Answer questions and advise on all aspects of the platform design and implementation.
4. Support business users in developing processes around using the platform.
5. Assist risk modellers and actuaries in using the risk models.
6. Provide guidance on extending and developing the platform.
7. Ensure quality and correctness of platform and model by designing and implementing automated tests.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
1. Knowledge of computational simulation techniques and methods.
2. An understanding of numerical methods and implementation techniques for them. Candidates may have picked up knowledge and experience of these from courses in the following:
A. Computational flui! d dynamics
B. Financial mathematics
C. Risk modelling
D. Information engineering
E. Signal processing
F. Machine learning
G. Finite element analysis
H. High performance computing (HPC)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to explain key aspects of models to non-technical business users.
Willingness to understand and help develop business processes.
Knowledge of at least one of:
A. Matrix algebra based programming language or environment such as Matlab.
B. Object orientated languages such as C#, Java or C++.
C. Functional languages such as Scheme, Haskell or F#.
Willingness to learn and work with new technology and ideas.
Ability to learn quickly and respond positively to change.
Knowledge of testing methodologies and the software development lifecycle.
Ideally, youâll also have:
A. Exper! ience of developing highly numerical and computationally intensive soft! ware.
B. Knowledge or experience of developing high performance or grid computing systems.
C. Familiarity with statistical methods and approaches pertinent to risk modelling in the insurance industry. (Probability distributions, Monte Carlo techniques & sampling theory.)
D. Working knowledge of insurance business domain concepts.
